And legalizing alcohol didn't end alcohol violence, but it DID vastly decrease the cash flow to criminal organizations and the shootings in the streets. Black markets create violence, even if just because participants can't make use of law to settle disputes.

There will always be a black market for these substances let alone new ones.

But more to the point, I think he will crack the whip again on medical marijuana dispensaries and not budge of federal sentencing guildlines.

Legalizing drugs won't end drug violence.

No, but it will:
  • Free up a lot of prison space to make way for all the Obama administration criminals
  • Cut into the CIA's illegal profits
  • Allow law abiding citizens to save their ammo for the Homeland Security thugs
Fugitive from the law of averages

It's sad DB, demostating your feeble powers and unable to turn the tide on this. :shakinghead:

Many South Americans countries and Mexico will soon be Narco states if nothing changes (if they aren't already) - which will change the whole meaning of the War on Drugs...

So not legalizing drugs is the road to all kinds of new and improved drug violence!

I'm not using my powers to turn the tide on this.
The world is f***ed up beyond the the simple ills of anti-cannabis laws.
I have bigger fish to fry.

Your obsession, on the other hand, seems to indicate that your life is such a panacea that you have nothing better to do than cheer the government on as it blunders down its destructive path grinding up human lives in the process.

So . . . glad you have so much free time, dude.
Lucky you.

Nothing to cheer about.

Just watching the next President (just like all the others previous) buttressing the walls and making the obstacles even harder.

Although I must admit things are better now than the last months. So yeah, I got that going for me.

It would end drug violence as we think of it, as in it would end gang violence over drugs. People on drugs would still fight I suppose, but that isn't really a common or violent enough of an occurrence to really matter and isn't what we generally mean when we say "drug violence". Gangs would still fight over gambling and prostitution, but they would have far less money and they would be fighting over a far less valuable prize

When you think alcohol violence these days you think bar fights and domestic violence. You no longer think of Lucky Luciano and Al Capone driving around shooting people with Tommy Guns. So it would be with whatever drug you legalized. That drug's violence would be associated only with the violence the substance itself causes.

The drug doesn't cause violence...
The drugs and the violence are both symptoms of the social disease...
Invest the money used to FIGHT drugs in the society and you have a strategy for the win.

Of course it won't end drug violence, but it would reduce it, can he or anyone deny it would REDUCE violence?

Wouldn't know. Can't reduce violence where there is no drug related violence in my neighborhood.

Harry is being facetious (I think)...

He means that in the gated communities of the influential there is no obvious drug related violence so there is no political will to care if policies actually work or not.
